Celebrating 25 Years of Cooking Without LookingThe Sunday Edition Anniversary Event

This week on Sunday Edition, we are honored to celebrate a remarkable milestone.Twenty five years of Cooking Without Looking, a groundbreaking television show that has transformed how audiences understand blindness, independence, and everyday life.

We were thrilled to be joined by Sylvia Stimson Perez, along with Allen Preston and Renée A. Rentmeester, to reflect on the legacy, impact, and community built around Cooking Without Looking over the past quarter century.

Cooking Without Looking features blind and visually impaired cooks preparing meals using adaptive techniques, tactile methods, and accessible kitchen tools. The show does something powerful and deceptively simple. It shows blind people doing normal things.Cooking.Teaching.Living.

During this special anniversary episode, we were also joined by Mama Leah of Mama Leahs Bakery, who walked us through a fabulous and accessible healthy oatmeal cookie recipe.Listeners learned how to use pumpkin as a substitute for butter or oil, proving once again that creativity, adaptability, and good food go hand in hand.

In true Sunday Edition fashion, members of the community also had the opportunity to share their own stories.Listeners spoke about how long Cooking Without Looking has been part of their lives and why it continues to hold such a meaningful place in the blind and low vision community.

Renée A. Rentmeester brings a lifetime of storytelling and advocacy to her work. Before creating Cooking Without Looking, she worked at CBS in press and public relations, news production, and editorial roles, and has received multiple Emmy nominations. She is also the author of two published books of poetry and has spent decades centering empowerment, dignity, and confidence through her work and outreach.

This anniversary episode was not just a celebration of a television show, but a celebration of representation, shared knowledge, and community.
