October 16, 2025

Sunday Edition with Anthony Corona

This week on Sunday Edition we bring you a show filled withinspiration, culture, and celebration.

In our first hour, Anthony sits down with Ben Akuoko, a dynamic thought leader, advocate, and founder of Brightside Scope, a Canadian-based platform advancing awareness, representation, and empowerment within disability and cultural communities. A proud Black man of Ghanaian descent living with Retinitis Pigmentosa, Ben uses his lived experience to explore the intersection of race, culture, and disability with honesty, passion, and purpose.

Ben holds a Master of Social Work and has led countless workshops and consulting projects centered on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. Through public speaking, training for production agencies, and leadership in national coalitions, he has become a powerful voice for Black individuals with disabilities across Canada and beyond. Ben is also a podcast host, digital creator, and storyteller whose mission is to ensure that every voice is seen, heard, and valued. This conversation will explore what true inclusion looks like in media, community, and culture today.

In our second hour, Gabriel Lopez Kafati and Danays Bautista join us in the Sunday Edition studio to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Together, they will share some of their favorite Hispanic anthems, memories, and stories of culture, resilience, and joy. They may even treat us to a recipe or two.

Danays, as many of you know, was also our recent guest on An Intimate Evening with Danays Bautista. Be sure to check out that beautiful and emotional journey through her music and life on the Sunday Edition with Anthony Corona podcast feed.

Show Notes: Declaration of Interdependence

In this powerful reflection, Anthony Corona gives voice to Boaty, his trusted guide dog and steadfast companion of nearly nine years. Written in the cadence of the Declaration of Independence, this piece reimagines the pursuit of freedom through Boaty’s wise and gentle eyes, transforming it into a call for empathy, inclusion, and collective strength.

The Declaration of Interdependence invites listeners to consider freedom not as the absence of need but as the presence of connection. It challenges us to see accessibility, compassion, and shared humanity as the true measures of democracy.

Sunday Edition: How Now Shall We Live

October 1, 2025

Sunday Edition presents: How now shall we live

Next up in our series of faith in modern times and in our lives conversations, Lorna, Mark, DJ, and Gabriel are back at the table. And the guest we are all eagerly waiting to share some time in conversation with is… Drumroll please… You

Join us this Sunday at 1 PM Eastern on 2020 The Beacon as we explore taking the tenets and the lessons of our faith, all faith, for we are not extolling one faith above any others. It is more about the connection to something higher, to something bigger, to each other, and most importantly to ourselves.

How do we take the things we believe in and turn them into actionable items. How do we filter the never ending news cycle, the commentary, the ugliness in debate and action using the things our faith teaches us. And how do we begin to bridge the divide between ideologies, faith, and lived experience.

For show executive producer and host Anthony it is all about love and humanity. We are all humans and we are all in a cycle of love, and if we remember that and draw down to that, it is easier to separate the noise from the music.

And we want to hear from you. How do you carry your faith through the dark times. How do you turn the lessons of faith into life actions.

Listen live at www.2020thebeacon.com or go directly to www.2020thebeacon.com/listen. You can ask your Alexa device to enable 2020 The Beacon, or find us on GetMeRadio and Live365.

Be sure to join Above the Fold: the Sunday Edition News Group on Facebook, check out my Substack for reflections and think pieces, and stay tuned as the Sunday Edition family of podcasts and digital media content services unveils our brand new website in just a few days.

Sunday Edition: Literacy in the BVI Community

September 24, 2025

Sunday Edition Show Notes Title: Literacy in the Blind and Low Vision Community Original Air Date: September 21, 2025

This week’s Sunday Edition launched the first in a series of conversations on literacy in the blind and low vision community. With a mix of experts, real time Braille users, and diverse voices representing non Braille reading literacy, this discussion opened the door to deeper understanding of what literacy means for all of us.

Panelists explored a wide range of topics including Braille literacy, print disability, electronic literacy, and how artificial intelligence can support access. The dialogue highlighted the importance of respecting and validating all forms of reading, writing, and communication. For some, Braille remains central. For others, like myself, secondary conditions or sensitivity loss make Braille difficult or impossible. In those cases, alternative methods become vital.

Together we looked at how to bridge the divide and how we can stand united in advocacy for literacy in all of its forms. This was an engaging and thought provoking conversation, setting the stage for more episodes to come in this series.

Sunday Edition The Mentoring Conversation

September 18, 2025

This week on Sunday Edition we turned our focus to mentoring. The conversation explored the many layers of how mentoring can shape personal growth, professional development, and community building.

We discussed how to find and balance the right partnership, the questions we should be asking ourselves as we enter into a mentoring relationship, and what we hope to give and receive through the experience. Together we looked at how to set realistic goals, how to talk honestly about both success and failure, and why recognizing failure can be just as important as celebrating achievement.

Our special guest was Kenneth Semien, newly elected second vice president of the American Council of the Blind and creator of the Peer to Peer mentoring program. Kenneth shared insights from his own journey, highlighting the value of building networks of support and fostering relationships that open doors and create opportunity.

The episode offers practical guidance and heartfelt stories that remind us why mentoring matters. Whether you are looking to become a mentor, find a mentor, or simply strengthen the connections in your own life, this conversation provides tools and inspiration to move forward with confidence and clarity.
